Seaweed farm - Site Survey

Before committing to a specific spot for the farm we needed to understand the existing flora and fauna in the area so we used an underwater ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) to check it out.

The site varies in depth from 35’-75’ with the substrate being mostly cobble (golf ball to soccer ball sized rocks) which offered some benefits and some drawbacks.

We found a variety of macroalgae in the shallower depths whereas there was very little in deeper waters, as was expected, as the available sunlight diminished.

Many benthic species were observed including clams, mussels, anemone, crabs, sea stars and urchins.

We put a short video together that details the process used to conduct the survey as well as some underwater footage.
